The Network is currently working on a new pilot legal services program to bridge the gaps in crime victims’ rights advocacy in the Virginia legal system. These services will include:
- Over-the-phone legal counsel and assistance
- Limited in-court representation, as prioritized, in the Richmond Metro region
- Referrals to pro bono attorneys, legal aid service providers, and other allied professionals
- A limited legal assistance fund to help cover costs of legal representation for victims who do not qualify for legal aid but who cannot otherwise afford an attorney
We aim for the new program to become an integral piece of the legal community advocating for crime victims in Virginia, particularly those in underserved areas and high-crime communities, and for whom gaps currently exist in services and support.
The new Legal Services program is planned to launch in Spring, 2020.
